Protection of forests in protected areas

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2015

Abstract

The approach aimed at protection of natural processes is especially important in forests, because a significant part of forest biodiversity can be preserved only by eliminating human intervention. In Austria, this concept attached special attention and for this purpose are set up so-called core non-intervention zones in national parks, biosphere reservations, wilderness areas and some forest nature reservations.

Besides the nature conservation, spontaneous development in protected areas also brings valuable new information and insights to the field of forest ecology, sustainable forestry, phyto-sanitation strategies etc. The mission of protected areas is also allow visitors to experience nature in new forms, including enjoying nature unaffected by human intervention.
