Orthography is traditionally defined as a set of rules on the representation of phonemes in writing. Therefore, its functions is divided into recording and tripping, thus spelling creates rules for phonemes recording and their re-production.
Orthography rules as a set of normative acts must be built by a certain authority and can be considered as a concrete realization of language policy, respectively language planning. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate, on selected examples of the development of the Czech Orthography of 19th and 20th century, its political reflection.
