Abstract
The study focuses on teaching Latin medical terminology based on the theory of language for special purposes and the theory of a discourse community. It underlines the fact that the teacher should be seen as a specialist at medical faculties.
Latin medical terminology is described as language for special purposes, which means that it has its own grammar and vocabulary. The teaching has to be practical, based on work with authentic medical texts written by doctors.
Students need to know why they are required to study Latin. The study presents new emphases in the teaching of grammar.
