The Body of Music examines in what sense we can and must ascribe some sort of a body to music, which has traditionally been considered the most ideal and metaphysical of arts, and it seeks to analyze different aspects of corporeality in music. Its aim is to show that the body of music cannot be reduced to mere physical vibrations (in the case of sound) or simply to the condition sine qua non of musical experience (in the case of the bodies of the participants of music).
Music is understood here as a complex embodied process incorporating musical and extra-musical elements, bodies, ideas, movements and inspirations. We propose the concept of inspiration based on the model of allergic reaction (signifying indirect influence) for the description of the relationships within this complex expressive field.
