Abstract

The book reveals the story of Cyril Dušek and his wife Pavla. Cyril Dušek was a journalist who became a Czechoslovak diplomat in Switzerland and Egypt after the WWI.

He was resposible for establishing of a new legation in Cairo in 1922/23. The set of 42 letters document the everyday of that process.

The letters were written by Pavla Dušková to her family, relatives and friends in Czechoslovakia. The book includes critical edition of the letters.

It is accompanied by biographies of the Dušeks as well as studies on political, social and cultural context of the Dušek's mission. Photographs produced by the Dušeks are also attached.
