In-between Activism and Everyday Life : Croatian "women's writing" as the moment of emancipation, individualization and selfidentification within patriachal culture
Abstract
The paper deals with the "women's writing" in the context of Croatian prose, its constitution and transformations in the late socialism to the 1990's, but is constructed from an interdisciplinary perspective that is related to broader problem of gender in culture. The main aim of the paper is to map out Croatian "women's writing" in relation to the topics of cultural repression, displacement and feminism.
It also discusses the cultural stereotypes and prejudices within the concept of "the imaginary of female authorship". Focusing on actual cultural transfer of female authors as an equals in culture, represented by "women's writing", it emphasizes the figures of radical otherness - distinguished femininity, sensibility and sexuality in self-reflecting fashion as seen in Irena Vrkljan, Slavenka Drakulić and Dubravka Ugrešić novels.
