One interesting phenomenon could be observed on curse tablets through the whole Mediterranean- the presence of mother's name as determinant of the cursed one. The ""boom"" of this is in the second century AD, but there are much older examples of it, concretely from the forth and third century B.C.

These are known from Greece and then the determination by mother was spreading especially to Italy and Africa, where this kind of determination became completely dominant. The aim of the paper is to find roots of using name of mother to point on the cursed one as concretely as it had been possible.

It could be connection with other magical practices or with the deities which were devoted on the tablets..
