Abstract
The history of career counseling includes a period over one century. In this time frame is possible to identify important milestones influencing core career counseling issues, relevant approaches and target groups.
From this point of view Czech context is different from foreign one. Nevertheless during last couple of years career counseling has become more popular.
There is a question if applied approaches and methods are in congruence not only with contemporary context but also with relevant special professional counselors' competences. It is evident that a need of education and research in area of career counseling is not possible to ignore
