Abstract
The chapter introduces the Czech translation of Denis McQuail's book Journalism and Society, translated by the authors of the Introduction. In this chapter they deal with the differences of the environment of the Czech readers from the author's anglosaxon background, as well as the difficulties of translation of the term "journalism studies" and they also write about the importance of Denis McQuail for the field of communication studies.
