Abstract
The book is a commented translation of the text of one of the most important thinkers in the field of communication and media studies Denis McQuail. It introduces various aspects of the relationships between journalism and society and with the help of translators' comments and the instroduction it approximates them to Czech readers who have different both cultural and social background than Denis McQuail.
