language: czech, polish The aim of this project was to survey the avifauna of the Krkonoše/Giant Mts, the mountain range along the Czech-Polish border, i.e. mapping the current distribution and abundance of breeding bird species, especially for purposes of nature conservation in the Czech and Polish Krkonoše National Parks and in the Special Protection Areas of the Natura 2000 network in both countries. The project is revolutionary in using state-of-the-art methods, namely fieldwork methods with the emphasis on standardization of the effort and handling the effect of the observer, as well as most modern methods for modelling species' distributions and abundances.
We hope this project opens a path for new generation of (not only) regional atlases.
