Comparing native-speaker and advanced-learner speech rates in a parallel corpus

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2015

Abstract

The presentation reports on the results of an analysis of speech rate in advanced-learner and native-speaker English and aims to establish the effect task design plays on speech rate in both groups of speakers. It shows that whilst considerable difference exists between the native and non-native speech rates, both groups of speakers are comparatively similarly affected by task design.
