Social and personal factors of aggregate life satisfaction of respondents in European Quality of Life Survey 2012 (EQLS 2012) data

Abstract

In European Quality of Life Survey 2012, the construct of subjective well-being is understood as a complex concept, which can be identified on the basis of two groups of indicators - cognitive and emotional ones. In the background of operationalization of this construct is the conception of E.

Diener (2000) who speaks about four components of subjective well-being (life satisfaction, satisfaction with important domains of life, and positive or negative experiencing). The EQLS 2012 data the possibility to assess by the means of binary logistic regression analysis the effectiveness of selected social factors as predictors of the global life satisfaction.

From followed social factors four showed to be the important predictors average unemployment measure; proportion of divorces to marriages; measure of perceived corruption expressed by Corruption Perceptions Index, and criminality level expressed by Crime Index. All four components of Diener,s concept showed to be significant predictors of global life satisfaction, while satisfaction with important domains if life and global feeling of happiness appear as the strongest predictors
