Sixteenth Century Mexican Architecture: the Circulation of Forms and Ideas Between Europe and America

Abstract

This contribution deals with the subject of the 16th century Mexican monastic architecture and its artistic decoration. Its aim is to present this architecture and its art within the appropriate historical context putting particular emphasis on the processes of cultural transmissions of forms and ideas and subsequent changes between Europe and America.

Partial attention will be paid also to the European art of the modern age with regard to the discovery of America and its impact on the western image of world (imago mundi).
