Qualitative-Quantitative Colours in Cartography: Visualizing Functional Regions

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2015

Abstract

Colour, one of the basic graphical variables, may be used in various ways in cartography depending on the kind of data being visualised.

Efforts to portray the fuzziness of regional borders present a special use case, where different aspects of colour can appropriately be utilised. This article shows how to break colour down using common colour models and achieve a visually appealing result in GIS as demonstrated with the example of functional commuting regions.
