Abstract
Riga in the period between the wars was one of the cultural centres of the Russian emigration in Europe. The peculiarity of the situation in the Republic of Latvia is revealed in the fact that on its territory was a large Russian community, a 'national' minority.
Most of the Russian population lived on the territory of Riga's Latgale suburb, where several orthodox parishes were historically located. Orthodox parishes are often perceived only as religious centres, but in the 1920's and 1930's the parishes also performed the role of the cultural, public and social centres.
The most important parishes in Latgale suburb in the 1920's and 1930's were the All Saints Parish, St. John Parish and the Annunciation Parish.
