Abstract

The present commentary is based on a preserved set of letters, cards and messages sent between 1897 and 1936 (particularly between 1898 and 1907) by Josef Svatopluk Machar and literary historian and journalist Jan Jakubec to each other. This collection documents Machar's and Jakubec's highly devoted and loyal participation in their politically enterprising network.

Repeated postulation of newly, more systematically and more conclusively based literary critical and literary historical, as well as, of course, popularizing and explanatory work was accompanied by the distribution of quite specific and thus debatable interpretations - in minor articles, preparatory studies and even in the 19th Century Czech Literature Anthology project (1902-1907), on which Jakubec collaborated to a considerable degree.
