The authoress analyses the relation of the town milieu of Constance to Master John Hus, who was burned there 1415. Originally rather small interest of local inhabitants grew under the influence of the European Reformation.
A little after the beginning of recatolisation suppressed however all reminiscences connected with Hus. Only the period of liberalism and romantism started gradual shaping of the real Hus' cult.
So in 19th century Constance became place of pilgrimage for admirers of John Hus.
