Abstract

The chapter aims to evaluate the critical principles of La Mesnardière's Poétique, a voluminous treatise dedicated mainly to the Tragedy. La Mesnardière defends his vision of a courteous spectator to whom the poetics of Tragedy shall adapt its mains intrinsic features.
