The main focus of this book is to offer Augustine's preaching and his theology of Christmas, as it is present in his sermons on Christmas and Epiphany. The first part of the volume pays attention to the preaching of Augustine; Augustine is presented as bishop and preacher who permeates his sermons with Scriptures.
Then, the current research on Augustine's sermones and especially the Christmas and Epiphany sermons is described. Next, the attention moves to the origin of Christmas in the Antiquity, where, according to the author's opinion, the origin of Christian feast of Christ's nativity can be grasped only in the complexity of religious, cultural, and historical phenomena in the Late Antiquity.
The last part of the study is dedicated to Augustine's theology of Christmas, where special attention is laid upon Augustine's concept of Christmas as a sacrament. The core of the book offers the first translation of Augustine's Christmas sermons in Czech, with a theological and philological commentary.
