Immunotherapy of tumours

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2015

Abstract

In this review, we summarize knowledge about the initiation of the immune response. The immune system is capable of controlling tumour cell growth especially in the early stages of tumour development.

Dendritic cells are the most effective antigen presenting cells in humans, they stimulate naive T lymphocytes and thus initiate specific immune response. Dendritic cells play a critical role in the antitumor immune response.

The progress done in basic immunology is leading to a better comprehension of the interaction between the immune system and tumours. The aim of this review is to present modern immunotherapeutic options for cancer diseases.
