Publication |
2015

Abstract

The authors describe the cases of lead poisoning in the employees in the production of special technical glass. The production remained undisclosed until the last company, which followed up the previous glass production, secured correct execution of occupational medical services beginning with 2013.

There are six employees in the production; in all of them the first preventive examination disclosed increased levels of lead blood level. Three of them were found to suffer from chronic lead poisoning, which was acknowledged as an occupational disease or danger of an occupational disease.

The hygienic service revealed fundamental defects in the area of health protection at work with lead. In the following proceedings, extensive measures were introduced to decrease the originally considerably elevated lead concentrations in the air of the production hall and effective personal protection of individual workers was secured.

Subsequently, all the three poisoned employees underwent chelation treatment with succimer. The contribution describes in detail the procedure during administration of Succicaptal and summarizes the results of therapeutic and preventive measures.
