Efficient Ways to Support Teaching Chemistry Through ICT from the Perspective of (Prospective) Chemistry Teachers

Abstract

The requirement for increased computer literacy among students and teachers today is entirely justified. The role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in developing scientific literacy is then one of the important and discussed issues of Didactics of Chemistry.

The ability to use technologies in the educational process is related to the technological and pedagogical content knowledge - important teacher competence in the 21st century. Teachers and students of chemistry teaching should thus be methodically encouraged to deliberate and effective use of various ICT elements due to their specific nature.

The paper focuses on presenting partial results of dissertation research project on the topic of effective ways to support chemistry teaching through ICT from the perspective of chemistry teachers. Attention is paid to the theoretical basis and effected pilot methodology and research, the respondents were students of chemistry teaching courses and chemistry teachers at the upper secondary education.

Comparison of these two groups attitudes can supplement a discussion on the applicability of ICT in teaching chemistry. In the conclusion there are discussed selected findings, which suggest that teachers have more positive attitudes to the inclusion of elements of ICT in teaching chemistry than students.

But it is also necessary to consider the results critically. They are not consistent with expected values, it is necessary to supplement these information through the observation of the actual learning process.
