Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2015

Abstract

Biological augmentation of rotator cuff repair aims to improve conditions for healing of cuff insertion after surgical reconstruction. Contemporary literature mentioning the use of stem cells in shoulder surgery has been quite limited so far.

Recently, several foreign and domestic research teams have been looking into this topic, a recent study describing use of autologous bone marrow derived mesenchymal in rotator cuff surgery has been initiated at the authors' of authors. First results on the safety of the method study have been submitted for publication.

There are promising outcomes, however it is still necessary to consider this method to be an experimental one. Further clinical research and results will be required for releasing the method into a clinical practice.
