The paper deals with the kinship terminology in contemporary Czech sign language, with the current terms being interpreted against the background of the most important language changes over the last 25 years. In addition to a description of the repertoire of terms for relatives (consanguineal relatives both in the nuclear and extended families, and affinal relatives), the formal makeup of the signs is also taken into consideration, as well as their motiva-tion and their origin (indigenous signs vs. borrowings from other languages).
