Abstract

The diverticulum is a blind protrusion of hollow organ. We distinguish congenital and acquired diverticulum according to origin.

Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital malformation of small bowel. It can cause complications in the form of ulceration, bleeding, intusussception, intestinal obstruction, perforation and, very rarely, diverticular fistulae and tumors.

These complications, especially bleeding, are more common in pediatric age group, however i tis uncommon to miss the diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum in adults. Except for Meckel'diverticulum the parapapilar or other acquired diverticulums of small bowel have clinically importnance.
