Abstract
International and national research performed since the 1990s show that the student knowledge of science is often merely formal and short-lived, based on memorization, lacking deeper understanding and the ability to apply the knowledge in practice. Because of that, there is a search for the reason for this state and more effective ways to teach science subjects.
