Licensing regulations for diabetes and driving-Two sides of the same coin?

Abstract

In the Czech Republic, physicians have a duty to report all suspected cases of driving ineligibility to a competent authority. They also have a legal duty to ensure that the driving licence is withdrawn when a second episode of severe hypoglycaemia occurs within a period of 12 months.

This approach deprives the physician of the opportunity to evaluate individual circumstances which may have caused hypoglycaemia, and whether licence revocation is appropriate.
