Abstract

Aim: To map the interest of active MA users in pharmacotherapy. Methodology: The data of the questionnaire study were analyzed using the χ2 test of independence, the two-tailed F-test and the two-tailed t-test.

Sample: The research group consisted of 130 active MA users (76.2 % men; avg. age 33 years) - clients of low threshold drug programs (NGOs: Drop In, SANANIM and Progressive) in Prague. Findings: Pharmacotherapy of MA addiction would be an attractive type of treatment for 40% (n=58) of MA users.

As a possible predictor of interest in the pharmacotherapy may be considered a higher score on the SDS scale of addiction severity and a higher number of previous treatment attempts. From the perspective of interest on the pharmacotherapy no relation was found with these variables: age of MA users, age of first MA use and duration of MA use, frequency of use and the amount of monthly income.

Belonging to any of the ethnic minorities maybe associated with a lower interest on pharmacotherapy and (non) existence of permanent employment. Conslusion: Pharmacotherapy of MA addiction can be an attractive type of treatment for a significant part of drug users.

Identified variables (score on the SDS scale of addiction severity and a higher number of previous treatment attempts) can be used to detect the interest of MA users on pharmacotherapy of MA addiction.
