August Geringer was one of thousands of immigrants from Bohemia, Moravia and Austrian Silesia. When he lived in Southern Bohemia, he was an assistant teacher and he did not earn much money, but in the United States of America he became one of the richest people in "Czech" Chicago.
He started binding books and had more different jobs, worked in printing house, than he founded his own printing house. His magazines and books were very popular among the Czech people in United States and Geringer had a success.
He donated some money to charitable intitutions, especially in Bohemia. When he died in 1930, he was one of the most famous people in "Czech" Chicago and his children and grandchildren went on with his activities.
