Abstract
This article attempts to respond to questions as to whether and how young people in the Czechoslovak Hussite Curch experience their religious identity in the paramount form of religious expression - in the liturgy. Upon a background of the results of empirical studies focusing on youth in various church organisations in the Czech Republic and throughout Europe, the article illustrates the relationship of young people towards church worship and the church itself.
In a comparison with the present situation within the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, problematic questions and areas stand out, which are directed directly towards the core of the liturgical and also ecclesiastical character of this church. A serious problem appears to be that of religious illiteracy, which is becoming increasingly evident in the younger generation, across both states and church denominations.
Its overcoming by appropriate education shall undoubtedly be one of the key measures that is necessary to implement within this church in future. This is linked to a need for openness on the part of the church to changes, the authenticity of its members and last but not least also an ability to engage a larger number of laypersons (in particular the younger generation) in church worship and the life of the church in general.
