The book provides a systematical analysis of Heidegger's interpretation of Hölderlin und thereby also of the spiritual world of Hölderlin. More precisely, it is an attempt to critically review Heidegger's dealings with Hölderlin's poetry.

It shows the links between the poetry of Hölderlin, the German idealism, and the thought of the Late Enlightenment, and shows how Heidegger, in his understanding of Hölderlin, gives little or no attention to many spiritual-historical references. In this way, the book explains the differences in the attitudes of the two thinkers (incl. their understanding of ontological, epistemological, aesthetic, social, and political questions) and, thus, provides a clear and differentiated picture of the Heideggerian interpretation of Hölderlin.
