There has been a lot of discussions and polemics about applied anthropology in (not only) Czech and Central European social science - the last example is the discussion about the role anthropologists should play in the current "refugee crisis". Anthropologists participate in development projects, social policy making, advocacy for the rights of marginalized groups, they work in media.

The goal of the special issue is to critically reflect on this situation, analyse its various aspects and open a discussion about the future of applied anthropology. The articles can deal with the ethical aspects related to the impact of applied projects, political and ideological position of anthropologists, negotiation about the position of applied anthropology in the academic environment, in state and government administration, in NGOs as well as in the private sector.

We welcome abstracts that deal with the involvement of anthropologists in (not exclusively): - migration and refugee help and advocacy - humanitarian relief and development aid - public health - community development - NGO sector - art - advocacy for marginalized groups - activism - business
