The paper presents the influence of the Norwegian spelling reform launched in 1907 on the Norwegian written language in the US. The Norwegian immigrant community in America published a number of newspapers in their native language.
The immigrant press became a significat part of immigrants' life in their new homeland. The changes and the development of the press reflect the gradual integration of Norwegians into the American society in various fields.
The presented research focuses on the linguistic level. For the purposes of the paper, the newspaper Decorah-Posten (issues in the period 1935 - 1945) was chosen as the primary material.
The orthographic and grammatical form of the Norwegian-American press is confronted with the spelling codified in the spelling reform from 1907.
