This article deals with the history of research of the East-European Hasidism with special emphasis on the topic of sources influencing origin and development of early Hasidism. The first part of the article is devoted to the work of Martin Buber and Gershom Scholem.
I am trying to show some of the main aspects of their approach to Hasidism. The first part is concluded with few short profiles of the most important older scholars.
The second part is devoted mostly to Moshe Idel and his panoramic approach to Hasidism. In the end there are mentioned some of the younger scholars focusing on Hasidism.
