Abstrakt
The contribution analyses the relevance of the Albanian important historical figure Skanderbeg in historiography and propaganda of communist Albania in the period 1944-1990. It also deals with the legitimizing role of historical narrative for the ruling elite of socialist Albania.
With increasing international and economic isolation of the country, the Albanian historiography was strongly nationalist. Interpretations of the past served as an ideological weapon against the enemies of the regime and for the strengthening of internal unity and ideological position.
The contribution focuses on the Skanderbeg's position in historical narration of socialist Albania and on the effort to find analogies between Skanderbeg's and Hoxha's Albania.
