Abstract
To comprehend even the basics of intensive care today is an extremely challenging task. Editors thus turned to experts who have a long personal experience in particular fields of specialized care.
The general part of the textbook contains chapters focused on the organization of acute care, education and competence of specialized nurses, and also on the principles of quality management, ethical aspects and conditions of use of medical instruments and devices. The overall assessment of the status of critically ill patient is emphasized, regardless of the underlying cause.
Special part is given to the diagnosis and treatment of various acute conditions in principal fields of medicine. Authors attempted to summarize in one textbook all comprehensive current trends in the care of seriously ill patients in acute situations.
