The aim of the study is to provide a coherent analysis of Dostoevsky's use of intertextuality as it appears in his novel Crime and Punishment. Since the earliest history of Dostoevsky research religious interpretation of Dostoevsky's thought has been part of the standard approach.

It is difficult to avoid the fact that Dostoevsky's literary and biographical world is permeated with biblical symbolism and Christian dogma. In my research so far I have focused mainly on the religious aspects of Dostoevsky's thought.

In this presentation my emphasis shifts to the area of literary criticism and hermeneutics while retaining the focus on Dostoevsky's religious symbolism in its literary form.
