Abstract

Exceptional progress in lengthening human life expectancy has occurred in Southern Europe since World War II. This tendency becomes more apparent when comparing the development of mortality in Southern Europe with that of other European regions.

This article focuses on changes in mortality in Southern Europe as compared with other European regions. It outlines the primary reasons for these changes.
