A Historical Geographic Perspective on Hispanic Immigration into the United States

Abstract

This article describes historic-geographic aspects and the broader context of Hispanic immigration into the United States in light of changes in the structure and size of total immigration. Based on state and county data, it documents changes in the regional distribution of the Hispanic population and clarifies some of the causes and consequences, which have led to modifications in US immigration policy.
