Jaromír Novotný Backlight: first monograph about the contemporary Czech artist working within field of painterly minimalism. Published in English by Belgian galleries Geukens & De Vil and Axel Vervoordt Gallery.
My introductory text Exposed Body of Painting captures specific nature of Novotný's paintings - subtracting from traditional content and emphasizing its material and visual function. The resulting effect being based on visual transparency can be metaphorically perceived as the body and skin of a painting, as membrane between meaning and ephemeral sensuality.
