Horse in the Late Bronze Age: Archaeozoological and Archaeological Research

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2016

Abstract

This contribution presents the results of our current archaeozoological & archaeological research. In 1979 the object of the Late Bronze Age was excavated and documented in the polycultural site in Prague - Malá Ohrada.

In 2016 the animal bones from this object were analyzed. Together with the remains of farm animals (Bos taurus, Ovis/Capra, Canis familiaris, Sus sp.), in the object lied a complete adult skeleton of the horse (Equus caballus) in anatomic position.

Archaeozoological analysis defined the basic observations of age, phenotype and taphonomy, as well as state of health and pathological report of the bones, which indicates potential utilization of the horse on the settlement in the context of its time.
