Criminal law protection against terrorism in the Czech Republic

Abstract

Terrorist attacks, which occurred in January 2015 in Paris, as well as other terrorist activities in Europe and elsewhwre, have revived the interest in means of legal protection against terrorism. It appears that international terrorism is an example of transnational crime in our times; it is a global problem and a threat to humanity.

It presents one of the most serious attacks on democracy and the rule of law, the values shared by all members of the European Union. The article introduces a definition of the term "terrorism", analyses the distinction between terrorism and organized crime, activities of the European Union in combating terrorism, as wel as legal definition of the crimes of "terror" and "terrorist atack" in the Czech Republic.

In conclusion, the author recomends alternations in the currently valid Czech law.
