The presented paper focuses on the issue of Roman rule in Egypt and the way it was perceived by the local population. The annexation of Egypt and subsequent Roman rule had a huge influence on the political, economic and ideological orientation of the country.
The changes were not radical but slow, continuous and lead to a complex transformation. In order to ensure the overall stability of the province, the Roman often adopted earlier models established by the Ptolemaic dynasty, however only with regard to Roman interests.
The changes resulted in extensive exploitation of Egypt's resources and modified social structure. Egypt shifted from the center of pharaoh's attention to the periphery of emperor's focus while still being one of the key assets of the Empire's economy.
