Management of late postoperative capsular block syndrome with accumulation of Propionibacterium acnes

Abstrakt
Capsular block syndrome (CBS) is a rare complication during or after cataract surgery. It is characterized by occlusion of a continuous curvilinear capsulorrhexis (CCC) by lens nucleus or by the optic of the posterior chamber (PC) intraocular lens (IOL) implanted and the subsequent accumulation of liquefied substance in a closed capsular bag.
This rare condition can even appear in the long-term follow-up after surgery. We present a case report of late CBS with the presence of Propionibacterium acnes in milky-white substance that was managed with bimanual irrigation/aspiration.
