Flavonoids are important components of human diet and they have been claimed to possess a significant antiplatelet potential. 29 mainly natural flavonoids were tested for their antiplatelet effects on the arachidonic acid cascade. The isoflavonoids genistein and daidzein were shown to possess both marked cyclooxygenase-1 inhibitory activity and acted also as antagonists on thromboxane receptors.

In conclusion, the consumption of few flavonoids in a diet, particularly of the isoflavonoids genistein and daidzein, may positively influence platelet aggregation.
