The article deals with the so-called speaker's attidudes towards the propositional contents (the epistemic, evidential, preferential, evaluative and emotional attitudes) and with their means of expression. It classifies the attitudes as for their relation to modal meanings, functional sentence perspective and to speech actions.
It assesses the variations of attitudinal expressions and, as a result o fit, it shows that accepting a too heterogeneous variety of expressions makes impossible to show the very core of the concept. The article suggests to limit the attitudinal expressions to cases with matrix sentences containing attitudinal predicates and to particularized adverbs in disjunct positions.
