A new species of oribatid mite from the family Damaeidae, Damaeus lupus n.sp., belonging to the nominate subgenus, is described from litter of Pinus cembra forest in a wilderness area of the Vysoke Tatry Mts. in the West Carpathians, Slovakia. The unusual set of characters (position of bothridia, epimeral and partial anal neotrichy), as well as possible relationships of this new species are discussed.
The larva of the species is also described.
