Building Good Governance in the EaP Countries

Publication

Abstract

As its title - Building Good Governance in the EaP Countries - shows, this guidebook seeks to raise awareness about the meaningfulness of 'good' governance practices in multi-level development projects. For the final purpose of enhancing democratic practices and regional cooperation, the local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Georgia are eager to familiarize themselves with the concept of 'good' governance itself.

As they have estimated their experience in monitoring good governance activities to be limited, the necessity for guidance and trainings on the issue is clear. The objective of this guidebook is to establish clear and unbiased information about the benefits and limitations of the tools and instruments available to monitor and evaluate the level of 'governance' at different levels of politics.

This will complement two other guidebooks, one on Evidence-Based Advocacy and the other on the Rule of Law. Hence, with the support of the Visegrad Fund, the ICDT and CSDF intend to use their own experiences in democratic transition as well as those of the other V4 countries (Poland and Slovakia) to enhance the capacity of local organizations to lead their own transformative process through cooperation with stakeholders, development of their resources and regional partnerships.

In addition, this guidebook will be used as a basis to organize a series of trainings and conferences to ensure that CSOs members understand their role in the development and consolidation of 'good' governance practices. The skills that organizations develop throughout this project will be used to design action plans for national and regional platforms of capacity building.
