The role of dendrochronology in the engineering-geology research of landslides within the Most basin

Abstract

Dendrochronology is a method of the absolute dating based on the evaluation of the response of woody plants to different natural processes, e.g., mass movements, debris flows, avalanches, floods, erosion and volcanic events. Tree-ring width analysis as well as quantitative wood anatomy allow reconstruction of the former natural processes, together with their impact, magnitude, severity and frequency.

This article describes how dendrochronology can be used in the natural hazard research in specific conditions of anthropogenic relief of the Most basin. Results of case studies performed during the last two decades are presented as well.
